Looking to escape the summer heat? One of the hostel’s favorite adventures is a leisurely tube ride down the Provo River offers a refreshing and easygoing way to cool off. We just did this just after memorial day this year. When the snow is really melting it can have some rapids, but normally it has only a few small ripples. For those who find the Weber River’s tubing section too rowdy, the Provo provides a more relaxed day with a more scenic environment.
We do this adventure 2-3 times every year, if you are into trying it let us know! We will see if we can get a group together to go!
Best accessed by a car or uber from the hostel, you can rent tubes from https://highcountryadventure.com/tubing/provo-river-tubing/. They need to be booked about two weeks ahead of time on the weekends, normally possible with a day or two during the week. We like to use paddle boards, but experience is highly recommended.
The typical float from the entry point to Vivian Park takes about two hours. Thanks to dam releases, the river water stays consistently cool in the 50s throughout the summer. Using a tube with a base helps to reduce contact with the cold water. Alternatively, smaller inflatable boats, duckies, and river kayaks are excellent choices, and paddles can help you from bouncing off the sides. Not required though! This activity is best enjoyed on warm days, ideally 80 degrees Fahrenheit or above, to balance out the cold water temperature.
